Newly Diagnosed
Understand the basics of kidney health, what a diagnosis means, and your next steps.
Stage 1
Mild kidney damage with normal or high GFR. Often has no symptoms but early detection is key.
Stage 2
Mild loss of kidney function. Early signs of kidney disease may begin to show.
Stage 3
Moderate loss of kidney function. More noticeable symptoms may develop.
Stage 4
Severe kidney damage. Preparation for dialysis or transplant may begin.
Stage 5 (ESRD)
End-stage renal disease. Kidneys have lost nearly all function; dialysis or transplant is needed.
